Frequently Asked Question

Do criminals use digital currencies?

Last Updated a year ago

Regrettably, the answer is yes. Nonetheless, it is noteworthy that criminal elements can potentially exploit any form of currency, whether digital or fiat.

A notable case in point is the launch of the Silk Road website in February 2011, which was administered by an individual operating under the fake name, Dread Pirate Roberts. It is worth noting that this site was eventually shut down by the FBI in October 2013, followed by another similar site, Silk Road 2.0, in November 2014. Notably, both websites exclusively permitted Bitcoin as the medium of exchange.
